Sentinels wear down Nordics
MARQUETTE – While there is not necessarily a connection between enrollment and basketball success, it usually impacts the depth of talent on a team.
So Friday when North Dickinson, with an enrollment of 84, took on Marquette, with an enrollment 1,021, it was eye catching.
And in the end, the UPSSA Division 1-3 third-ranked Sentinels wore down the D4 fourth-rated Nordics, outscoring ND 22-1 in the fourth quarter en route to a 68-34 victory at Marquette Senior High School.
The Nordics (13-3) stayed competitive through the first three quarters. They trailed 17-7 after one quarter and held the Sentinels (10-7) to a 17-all tie in the second quarter to go into the halftime break down 34-24.
Marquette lengthened its lead a bit in the third, moving out to a 46-33 advantage before they sprinted away from the Nordics in the fourth.
Tyler Fleming led ND with nine points, while Jason Graham and Ty King scored seven each.
Marquette’s Connor Fierstine led all scorers with 19. Nine Sentinels scored in the game.
