Norway Speedway has announced its schedule for the summer of 2026 and it’s nothing short of epic.
The Auto Moxie Season Opener on May 29 is a traditional Friday night. Then, on Saturday, June 6, the American Speed Association Midwest Tour will be coming back to the Speedway. The Midwest Tour is one of the top asphalt late model racing series in the United States and has been the launching pad of many NASCAR stars such as Ty Majeski, Casey Johnson, Gabe Sommers, Dan Fredrickson, and Derek Kraus.
Last year’s winner was Norway Speedway racing legend Dalton Zehr. Casey Johnson was second and Levon Van Der Geest was third. Zehr, at 14.12, was also just a few ticks away from breaking the track record of 13.951 that he has held since 2013..
“Planning the Midwest Tour race and getting them to a venue like Norway is a year-long process with communication going on through the tour director, and officials trying to find a date suitable for both parties involved,” said Norway Speedway Vice President and spokesperson Joey Pontbriand. “The tour brings the top tier talent in the country at a very affordable price. Stacking the touring stars against local stars has always provided excitement that is unmatched.”
Pontbriand who is the defending Norway Speedway track champion, participated in the event last year and finished an impressive sixth. Everyone benefits from a race of this magnitude including local businesses, gas stations, motels and restaurants.
The race will be brought to you by Weimer Bearing & Transmission Inc. out of Germantown, Wis.
Another marquee event returning to the Speedway for the first time in 15 years is one of the Midwest’s most popular traveling series, The Mid-American or Mid-Am on June 26. These cars are the grassroots of auto racing featuring factory front frames and suspension. They have made a huge return in popularity across the country.
The division has a long list of talented drivers — one of the most popular is NASCAR’s Natalie Decker. Other notable drivers include James Swan and Jeff Storm. Pontbriand once again worked behind the scenes to bring this popular series back to Norway Speedway.
It goes without mentioning the summer’s biggest event will be the Stateline Challenge on July 3. NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series Champion Johnny Sauter will again be driving a Coleman Racing Products entry and the race format will be changed to three stages equivalent of 119 laps in honor of racing legend and Hall of Famer Gene Coleman. He’ll be the grand marshal for the event. Also in attendance will be NASCAR Champion Crew Chief Greg Ives and his son Parker.
There will be an autograph session with all the drivers for the fans. Previous winners of the Stateline Challenge include NASCAR’s Kevin Cywinski, Dalton Zehr, Justin Mondeik, Andy Monday, NASCAR’s Dick Trickle, Jamie Iverson, Braison Bennett, and Kris Kelly.
Last summer was the debut of the Fast 5 Series, which was a huge hit for fans and drivers alike. The Fast 5 included two Auto Value races, Stateline Challenge, the Werner Electric 50, and the Dickinson County Fair race. Last year’s inaugural champion was Vulcan’s Dan Lindsley in the Coca-Cola Late Model division, Ryan Wender in the Auto Value Super Stock division, Todd Schmidt in the 141 Auto Sportsman division and Trevor Cronick in the Whelen Fab 4-cylinder division.
The Fast 5 is back on the slate for 2026 and should be attracting even more of the top drivers throughout the region. The WIR quarter-mile Late Models will also be making their return on Aug. 14 honoring the late Jerry Schneider along with the ever popular Wisconsin Sport Trucks.
The trucks have enhanced their schedule with three events at Norway Speedway including June 26, July 10, and Aug. 14. The Speedway will actually crown a champion for the three-race series.
Also returning this summer will be the popular kids Power Wheels racing. They will have three to four events. The Power Wheels Championship where everyone is a champion will be on Aug. 28.
The Impact Survival Series will return Saturday, Aug. 22, brought to you by Systems Control. Spectator Eliminators will also be returning for several events.
Other big news for the Speedway will include three new divisions including Vintage Modified and Stock Cars. The 4-Cylinder division will be divided into two brackets featuring Modified, Modified 4s, and Stock 4s. By bracketing the Mod 4s any car throughout the Midwest will be legal to race.
The Stock 4 division is going to turn back the clock and allow the older 4-cylinder low horsepower, automatic transmission cars to come back and be competitive. And finally, the 1st Minivan-O-Ramm-Ya will be on July 17. Last year’s event was cancelled, but a local business has come forward with a ramp.
It should be fun. For all Speedway information go to the Norway Speedway Facebook page or go to www.norwayspeedway.com.
