Home teams get wins in MHSAA girls first round
The MHSAA girls basketball tournament tipped off Monday night, with Iron Mountain, West Iron, North Dickinson and North Central all winning their district openers at home.
In Division 4, District 99, North Dickinson (12-9) met Stephenson (4-17) and came away with a 60-30 victory. The Nordics will play at Forest Park (14-7) in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Also in District 99, North Central (10-10) got past Carney-Nadeau (7-15), winning 46-42. The Jets will play at Norway (17-4) in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
In Division 3, District 66, Iron Mountain (4-18) posted a 48-41 win over Manistique (2-18). The Mountaineers will play at Menominee (15-6) in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
In Division 3, District 65, West Iron (7-15) hosted Ironwood (7-15) and prevailed 42-25. The Wykons will travel to Calumet (9-11) on Wednesday for a district semifinal.
In Division 2, District 33, Kingsford (15-5) will host Gladstone (18-4) on Wednesday in a district semifinal. Houghton (17-6) defeated Escanaba (2-18) on Monday, 56-30. The Gremlins will face Negaunee (21-1) on Wednesday.
