Iron Mountain ended its varsity boys basketball season with a record of 12-11 overall and placed second in the Mid-Peninsula Conference behind Westwood.
Brayden Kassin, a junior, was selected first team All-Conference and also landed a spot on the all-defensive team. For the season, Kassin averaged 21.1 points per game, along with 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.4 steals.
Fellow junior Charles Baldridge received honorable mention All-Conference. He averaged 10.2 points, six rebounds and 1.4 blocks.
“Our coaching staff was very proud of the improvements the players made individually and as a team from day one,” said head coach Kyle Johnson. “All 12 players were a joy to be around and to coach. They worked so hard in practice and in games and played for one another. That is a testament to the families and how they raised these young men.”
Johnson said coaches are already looking forward to the next season and starting to put the puzzle together.
“We want to thank our seniors — Max White, Collin Punzel, Austin Gayan, and Jaqai Smith,” he said. “We wish them the best of luck moving forward.”
Westwood senior Ethan Marta was Player of the Year in the Mid-Peninsula Conference while Westwood senior AJ Pizziola was Defensive Player of the Year.
Also named to the All-Conference first team were Negaunee senior Tristan Slater, Westwood senior Caden Balzarini, Gladstone junior Lonnie Davey and Gladstone sophomore Alex Prins.
