West Iron’s Oberlin, Shamion earn conference hoops salutes

West Iron County sophomore Seth Oberlin was named to the Copper Division first team in all-conference boys basketball awards announced by the WestPAC.
West Iron junior Jessiah Smith was given honorable mention for the Copper Division.
In girls basketball, West Iron County sophomore Bristol Shamion was named to the Copper Division first team, while senior Lacey Shamion received honorable mention.
Westwood swept the WestPAC’s major boys awards. Senior Ethan Marta was named Player of the Year, Senior Jacob Ridl was named Defensive Player of the Year and Luke Gray was named Coach of the Year.
The WesPAC Dream Team included Houghton sophomore Terrence Nolan, Jeffers senior Landon Larson, Westwood senior Caden Balzarini, Negaunee senior Tristan Slater and Ishpeming senior John Wheeler.

Joining Oberlin on the Copper Division’s first team were Calumet senior Peter Torola, Hancock sophomore Gage Chynoweth, Houghton junior Alex Hebert and Jeffers junior Levi Kinnunen.
In girls awards, Ishpeming senior Jenessa Eagle was named Player of the Year in the West PAC. Her senior teammate Mya Hemmer was named Defensive Player of the Year. Mike O’Donnell of Negaunee earned Coach of the Year.
The WestPAC Dream Team included Hemmer, Negaunee senior Clare O’Donnell, Negaunee junior Gretel Johnson, Houghton junior Ellie Hainault and Hancock senior Emery Chynoweth.
Joining Bristol Shamion on the Copper Division first team were Hancock senior Alecia Aho, Calumet junior Bailey Strom, Jeffers junior Mia Nordstrom and Houghton junior Ruby Zawada.
IM’s Wood honorable mention
Eagle and Gladstone senior Lillie Johnson were awarded Co-Players of the Year in girls basketball awards announced by the The Mid-Peninsula Conference.
Iron Mountain junior Alysia Wood earned honorable mention.
Hemmer received Defensive Player of the Year while Ishpeming’s Ryan Reichel was named Coach of the Year.
First team all conference selections were Hemmer, Negaunee’s Johnson and O’Donnell, Gwinn junior Makayla Delmont and Gladstone junior Eva Pankonien.
