Athlete spotlight: Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel

Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel

FLORENCE, Wis. — Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel is a senior at Florence County High School and the oldest daughter of Michelle VanDenHeuvel. She has two sisters, Miley and Emma.

A multi-sport athlete, she has competed in volleyball, basketball, track and field and is currently on the softball team. She has also raced on the Norway Speedway the past couple of summers.

We caught up with her to ask a few questions.

What is your favorite sport and why?

My favorite sport is volleyball because I get to play it with my best friends. It is very high tense, and so much fun to play.

What is your favorite sports memory/memories?

My favorite sports memories are weekend volleyball tournaments with all of my friends, and going to the volleyball state semifinals my senior year.

What will you miss most about playing?

I will miss the games on my own home gym floor, and the endless laughs every day.

What are you hobbies outside of school?

Outside of school I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, staying busy, and hanging out with friends.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my mom. She taught me to never give up, and to work for what you want.

Future plans?

I will be attending Bay College to get an associate’s degree in nursing, and then move on to get my bachelor’s degree in nursing.
