KINGSFORD – A power surge ignited Kingsford to its fourth straight win Monday afternoon at Gary Spigarelli Memorial Field, as the Flivvers jumped all over Iron Mountain and cruised a 16-0 victory in three innings.

Juniors Noah Trulock and Logan Grondin went back-to-back with homers in a seven-run first inning, and senior Jacob Deuter added a two-run shot in the second as the game was quickly put out of reach. Kingsford plated four in the second and another five in the third to bring on the mercy rule.

“We got things rolling there,” said Flivvers head coach Joe Kriegl, his team improving to 4-9. “I feel for Iron Mountain because we’ve been on that end of things too where no matter what you do, things just don’t go your way. We just happened to get it going, hit the ball well and go the momentum going early.”

The Flivvers ripped 13 hits, with the homers all clearing the left field fence in the same general area. Trulock made it 3-0 Kingsford when he connected deep for a two-run blast. Grondin followed with a no doubter, and Deuter’s long ball was a line drive scorcher over the wall to make it 9-0.

Junior Jack Spreen collected three hits with a double and three RBIs. Freshman Colin Olsen was 2-for-3 out of the lead-off spot with two RBIs. Junior Jonah Doenier had single and tallied three RBIs. The Flivvers were walked six times and took advantage of four Iron Mountain errors.

Kingsford senior Jacob Deuter shares a high five with senior Jack Kriegl after clubbing a two-run home run.

Senior Jack Kriegl and Spreen combined to no-hit the Mountaineers. Kriegl worked the first two innings on the mound, fanning three, while Spreen worked around a hit batsman and a walk to keep the Mountaineers off the board in the third.

Kingsford has now outscored its opponents 38-6 during its current four-game win streak. There was no JV contest Monday. Kingsford headed to Gladstone on Tuesday and returns home to face Marquette on Thursday.

Iron Mountain (2-6) hosts Norway today.
