MENOMINEE – Junior Mya Brunswick tossed a four-inning perfect game for Kingsford in a 15-0 rout over Menominee Monday afternoon. The Flivvers fell 6-1 in the second contest.

Brunswick fanned eight of the 12 Maroons she faced, getting swings and misses on six of those punchouts. She fired 30 strikes against just 11 balls, never seeing a count go to ball three. Brunswick – who also threw in the second game – now has 143 strikeouts in 112 innings of work this season.

“She puts a lot of time in,” Flivvers head coach Amy Brunswick said. “I was happy for her, and it was great to see our defense rock solid behind her. They made some incredible plays to keep that zero on the board and keep her in rhythm.”

The Flivvers mashed eight hits, scoring in every inning and putting the game beyond the mercy rule with a nine-run fourth.

Senior Jazzlyne Shaughnessy had a three-hit game with two RBIs and three stolen bases. Sophomore Jolie Fleming was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, collecting the game’s only extra base hit with an RBI double through the left side for the game’s first run. Senior Karly Trevillian went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kingsford took advantage of 11 walks and were active on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.

“We did a great job hitting and were patient at the plate,” Brunswick noted. “We were able to find the holes and for the most part, run the bases well.”

Tied 1-1 through the first two innings in the second game, Menominee scored twice in the third due to Kingsford fielding miscues to take the lead and added three more in the fifth. It was more than enough for Kylie Kellner who limited the Flivvers to just four hits.

Shaughnessy poked two singles, while Brunswick added a triple. Junior Kailey Matuszewski drove in the Flivvers only run, finding the grass with a shallow pop up to right.

“Our bats just went cold,” Brunswick said. “Menominee’s pitcher did a nice job keeping us off balance.”

Brunswick and Trevillian split duties in the circle, allowing eight total hits and each striking out four against just one walk. Kingsford fell to 9-20 with the loss.

In JV action, Kingsford also produced a split, winning 14-5 in the opener before falling 7-4. Freshman Lia Murphy and sophomore Haylee Kasten each had two singles, Murphy driving in one and Kasten notching two RBIs. Kingsford took 19 walks. Freshman Gracie Chartier went the whole way in the circle for the win, allowing seven hits while striking out five and walking four. Sophomore Olvia Scott ripped a two-run homer to center and doubled to pace Kingsford’s offense in the second game. Murphy and freshman Haidyn Robinson also doubled for the 11-7 Flivvers.

Kingsford heads to Norway this afternoon and Marquette on Thursday.
