GLADSTONE – Kingsford jumped all over Gladstone, batting around the order and scoring six times in the first inning en route to an 11-1 thrashing and a fifth straight victory Tuesday afternoon.

The Flivvers, improving to 5-9, have now outscored their opponents 49-7 during their five-game win streak as they prepare to host Marquette this afternoon.

“We made some significant plays early, had some timely hits with guys on base and capitalized on some of their mistakes,” Flivvers head coach Joe Kriegl said. “The combination of those three things allowed us to get out in front early and then we kept it rolling.”

Juniors Noah Trulock and Jack Spreen led the first-inning onslaught. Trulock got Kingsford on the board by shooting a bouncer up the middle for two runs. Spreen later added the big blow by crushing a bases-clearing double to left.

Trulock also had a double for two of Kingsford’s seven hits. Freshman Colin Olsen had two hits, including a two-run line drive single to right in the third inning. Junior Jonah Doenier added a run-scoring single in the first inning.

Senior Jack Kriegl earned the victory on the hill, tossing four-innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts and no walks. Junior Caleb Erickson (1 IP, 1 H) and Doenier (2 IP, 2 H) also threw in the win.

“Jack threw strikes and the let the defense take care of any balls in play,” Kriegl said. “We are playing more consistent now, which puts us in position to come out on top. We just need to figure out how to keep it going.”

Kingsford’s junior varsity team scored in every inning, including a four-run fifth to take a 10-4 decision over Escanaba and improve to 8-0-1. Freshman Gino Santoni went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Olsen added two hits and two RBIs, and freshman Luke Rice had a hit with two RBIs. Sophomore Domenic Frederickson smacked a double. Santoni earned the win, checking the Eskymos to two hits over five innings with five strikeouts.
