KHS softball drops 2 downstate; JVs earn split
GAYLORD – Kingsford varsity softball found itself overmatched on a trip downstate Saturday, as the Flivvers fell 18-3 to Gaylord and 11-0 against Ogemaw Heights, slipping to 8-17 for the season. Junior Mya Brunswick stroked a two-run double for the Flivvers in the first game, but Kingsford’s offense was limited to just four hits in the two games combined. Kingsford committed six errors on the afternoon. Senior Karly Trevillian suffered the loss against Gaylord, while Brunswick took the defeat in the second game.
The Flivvers junior varsity team earned a split in a home doubleheader against Menominee Saturday, falling 11-7 in the first game before edging the Maroons 14-13 in the second contest. Freshmen Jana Cook and Jenna Robb each connected for three hits in the first game, Robb hitting a double. Sophomore Haylee Kasten also doubled in a run.
Kingsford (8-6) held off a late push by the Maroons for the win in the second game. Sophomore Olivia Scott totaled three hits, including a triple. Kasten, Robb, and freshmen Gracie Chartier and Alayna Pietrantonio each had two hits – Robb smacking a double. Freshman Lia Murphy added a triple.
Both the varsity and JV teams head to Negaunee Wednesday.
