MARQUETTE — The Marquette boys golf team clinched the Great Northern Conference season championship while Escanaba claimed girls honors after the GNC Meet was held in Marquette on Wednesday.

Boys

Marquette dominated at home, putting together the four lowest individual rounds for a 24-stroke victory, 294 to runner-up Escanaba’s 318. Gladstone was third with 322, Kingsford had 340 and Menominee 383.

Marquette’s Boden Moore was medalist with 71, while teammate Seve Swanson was next with 73. The Sentinels’ Easton Aho and Jack Pond each shot 75, two strokes better than anyone else in the field.

Just for insurance, though, Marquette’s fifth golfer, Caleb Aho, shot 81 to tie for 11th.

The Sentinels also clinched the season team race with a perfect 35 points, going undefeated in league meets, while Escanaba was second with 26 1/2 and Gladstone third with 21 1/2.

In addition, Moore earned the most points in conference meets, 89, to clinch the GNC Player of the Year honor.

Easton Aho was second with 78 1/2, while Swanson was third with 76 and Pond fifth with 60 1/2 to all earn GNC First Team.

In Wednesday’s meet, the best shooter not from Marquette was Escanaba’s Carson Artley with 77, good for fifth place, while his teammate Chayce Cousineau and Gladstone’s Karson Delany and Rory Johnson all tied for sixth with 79.

Kingsford’s top shooter was Owen Olkkonen with 80, a tie for ninth, while Menominee’s best was Jacob Schultz with 82, a tie for 14th.

In the all-conference race, Artley and Delany also made the First Team, while Aho, Cousineau, Olkkonen, Gladstone’s Owen Gereau and Esky’s Lincoln Bradfield made the Second Team.

Girls

The Marquette girls’ runner-up finish on Wednesday matched their season finish, with both titles being claimed by Escanaba.

MSHS totaled 423 as the Eskymos won with 404. Kingsford was third with 439, then Gladstone with 463 and Menominee 488.

For the season, Esky scored a perfect 35 points as the Sentinels had 28, Kingsford 23, Menominee 16 and Gladstone 13.

Marquette’s top shooter Wednesday was Hayden Schetter with 102, which tied her for fourth place with Esky’s Lilee Berbohm.

Also for Marquette, Elise Busick had 104 to finish sixth, Delanie Rhoades 107 to tie for seventh, Kylie Smith 110 to tie for 11th and Madelyn Emmendorfer had 149.

Medalist Kamrie Scott of Escanaba shot 86, eight strokes ahead of teammate and runner-up Lily VanDamme’s 94.

Madelyn Zeuske of Kingsford was third with 98, while the other three in the top 10 were Kingsford’s Charlotte Todd with 107 to tie for seventh, the Flivvers’ Lauren Ghere shooting 108 to place ninth and Menominee’s Madelyn Mosey with 109 to finish 10th.

Schetter and Rhoades finished right next to each other for the season, scoring 58 1/2 and 58 points, respectively, to make the GNC First Team, while teammates Smith had 43 1/2 and Busick 32 to join the Second Team.

Scott was GNC Player of the Year with 87 1/2 points, well ahead of second-place Zeuske with 74 1/2. Zeuske was on the First Team along with VanDamme and Todd, while also on the Second Team are Berbohm, Menominee’s Lexi Marineau and Esky’s Brooklyn Hackleman.
