Prep golfers converge at George Young
Young’s Golf Course in Iron River hosted 147 boys and girls varsity golfers for a meet Wednesday.
“Our team finally played an 18-hole event as we have had several canceled,” said Iron Mountain coach Steve Flamino. “Two of our girls placed in the top ten.”
In the girls meet, Negaunee’s Ady Crookham was the medalist with a 93.
Iron Mountain’s Monroe Vedin fired a 102, good for sixth, while Olivia Fleming carded a 107, which tied for eight with Forest Park’s Kallie Evers-Margoni.
West Iron also participated, led by a 111 from Ella Holm to rank 10th.
In the boys meet, Tage Rajala of Jeffers set the pace with a 79. Forest Park’s Noah Starr posted an 82 to place seventh.
Iron Mountain was led by Brayden Kassin with an 88, good for 17th. West Iron’s top score was a 93 by Ryan Dallavalle.
Iron Mountain will host Kingsford and West Iron County on Monday at Pine Grove for another 18-hole event.
In a Northern Lakes Conference boys meet Monday at George Young, Florence’s Colt Atwell placed second with an 80, one stroke behind Grayson Polcaster of Three Lakes/Phelps.
Carson Chrisman of Florence placed seventh with an 85.
