Fresh off a third straight Skyline Conference softball crown, Norway will set its sights on an MHSAA Division 4 district title.

The Knights on Tuesday defeated North Dickinson 15-3 in five innings at Marion Park to reach the District 99 semifinals.

They’ll host Carney-Nadeau at 10 a.m. Friday, while Bark River-Harris and Carney-Nadeau clash at 1 p.m.

The championship game is set for 4 p.m.

“Everybody is 0-0 now and we haven’t seen this team (Carney-Nadeau) since April 21,” said Norway coach Robert (Kuba) Bal. “Anything could happen.”

The Knights turned to small ball against the Nordics, laying down consecutive bunts out of the gate.

“They did an excellent job of getting the ball down,” Bal said. “We told them it doesn’t matter how we are getting there, we just need base runners.”

Norway put up 11 runs in the first two innings, along with two apiece in the fourth and fifth.

At the plate, Payton Paquette notched four singles, scoring four times and driving in three runs. Kendall Burklund and Jordan Moln added two hits each, while Tessa Castelaz went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBIs.

On the mound, Burklund struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit and one walk.

Lila Moraska and Kara Stanchina also pitched an inning apiece.

“Kendall was in control and we wanted to get Lila some work before Friday,” Bal said. “It was also nice be able to get Kara (Stanchina) in for an inning as she didn’t pitch all year. All we wanted from Kara was contact pitching. We have a good defense that made the plays we needed so we could advance,” he said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
