The Jets, who have won five consecutive district titles, collected 13 hits — 12 of them singles.

“We really haven’t been hitting the ball hard much at all this year,” said first-year Jets head coach Joe Romano. “Today it was nice to see us making contact when we needed to.”

The lone extra-base hit for the Jets was a second inning lead-off double by freshman Reddick Randall, who contributed additional offense in the form of bunting.

Jeffers played “small ball” at different times in the contest.

“I’ve got a great group of kids this year, they buy into the small ball philosophy I sometimes use, and today it worked to our advantage,” Romano added. “Randall was a game-changer today with his bunting, moving guys over and legging out infield hits at key times in the game.”

On the mound for the Jets, Cameron Anderson pitched with precision and consistency in his complete game performance. While allowing eight Nordics hits, Anderson did fan eight batters and walked just one.

North Dickinson’s first hit was in the bottom of the third from their number-nine hitter, after Anderson recorded consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the home half of the first two innings.

“(Anderson) was unbelievable today, he wanted the ball today, like he has whenever we needed him to, and he hasn’t let us down at all,” Romano said. “He was anxious for his chance to pitch this season and he’s improved as the season has went on.”

The Jets got on the scoreboard in the top half of innings one and four to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, after ND catcher Jason Graham drew a walk, Nordics pitcher Trenton Kramer smacked a two-run home run over the left field fence to knot the score at 2-2.

Jeffers responded with a five-run outburst in the top of the following inning, mostly with aggressive base running and Nordics errors, totaling a half dozen in the game.

Trailing 7-2 in the home half of the 5th, North Dickinson added two more runs, as Graham and Kramer both recorded RBIs — Kramer’s third of the contest to make the score 7-4.

The top of the 6th saw the Jets add two more runs on consecutive RBI singles from Levi Kinnunen and Randall. Each team added uneventful runs in the final inning of the game.

The Nordics, who captured their first district baseball championship in school history last week, were grateful and excited to play a home game in a regional semifinal.

“Getting to play at home today in a game of this importance was exciting for our program and players,” said Nordics head coach Kenny Pekarek. “We had far too many errors today, our worst defensive game of the season at the absolute worst time. Good luck to Jeffers the rest of the way.”

The Jets (15-6) advance to the regional final today at 10 a.m. where they’ll take on Mio at Rudyard. Region 26’s championship game will be played at approximately 12:30 p.m. between Hillman and Norway, also at Rudyard.

Region 25 and 26 champions will then face one another with a chance to go to the final four of Division 4 at Michigan State University the weekend of June 11-13.
