KHS’s Brunswick named GNC Pitcher of the Year

KINGSFORD – Great Northern Conference softball coaches announced the all-league teams, voting Kingsford junior Mya Brunswick as the conference’s Pitcher of the Year.
In addition, Kingsford sophomore Jolie Fleming (infield) and senior Jazz Shaughnessy (outfield) were selected to the All-GNC first team, with junior Kailey Matuszewski (infield) and senior Karly Trevillian (utility) landing on the second team. Freshman Miley Bray earned honorable mention.
Brunswick dominated in the circle all season, amassing 175 of the team’s 200 strikeouts against just 14 walks over 138 innings pitched. She posted an 11-9 record in 24 starts with a 2.13 earned run average. She punched out 48 batters looking while limiting opponents to a .221 batting average.
Fleming led the Flivvers with a .383 batting average, swatting team bests with 36 hits including eight doubles and three triples with only 12 strikeouts over 110 plate appearances. She collected 23 RBIs, scored a team-high 32 runs and swiped a team-best 36 bases.
Shaughnessy produced a .330 average with 33 hits, including seven doubles and a triple with 14 RBIs and 23 runs scored in 107 plate appearances. She was only caught stealing once in 27 attempts.

Jolie Fleming
Matuszewski posted a .282 average with 24 hits including four doubles and a triple with 13 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Trevillian knocked in 23 runs with a .295 average, smacking seven doubles, a triple and a home run in the district semifinal. Bray, appearing in 24 varsity contests, totaled 14 hits with two doubles, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored.
