NORWAY — Kingsford and Gladstone are scheduled to square off at 4 p.m. today at Marion Park in the winner’s bracket of the District 10 Little League tournament in the Majors (ages 10-12) division.
On Sunday, Gladstone defeated Schaffer 10-0 to advance, while Kingsford defeated Iron Mountain 9-0.
Kingsford wasted no time against Iron Mountain as they put up six runs in the first inning — two of them coming on a two-run double by Luca Cory. Jacob Andes also doubled, scoring one.
Jade Unrein picked up the win for Kingsford as he allowed zero runs on zero hits with nine strikeouts and zero walks.
“The curveball was working well for me today,” Unrein said. “I just use the fastball to set up and get them with the curveball and we hit the ball well at the start of the game which was big.”

Kingsford's Cooper Mormont takes a turn at the plate at Marion Park in Norway.
Abel Belanger got the win for Gladstone, allowing zero runs on one hit with six strikeouts and one walk. Elliott Pankonien went 3-for3 at the plate with two singles and a double.
“I just wanted to go out there and hit the ball the best I could,” Pankonien said. “We played amazing and our pitching was very good and I was just hoping we could get out of here quick.”
In a loser’s bracket elimination game Sunday, Norway defeated Escanaba 14-8.
In the second inning, a diving grab in the outfield by Norway’s Bryer Wolsker kept Escanaba from adding to a 4-0 lead. “I thought I dropped it at first but I got it,” Wolsker said.
In the third inning, Norway took its first lead as Chase Freiberg had an RBI single and Owen Vassar scored on an error. Escanaba reclaimed the lead at 6-5 but Norway answered with an eight-run fifth inning that included Wolsker scoring on an RBI-single by Kam Kraemer.

Norway's Bryer Wolsker awaits a pitch.
Liam Smith got the win for Norway, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Waylon DeForge was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
“We were down by four early and came back,” DeForge said. “They came back again but we got the bats going again and we played great and everyone did their job,” he said.
In Saturday’s action, Gladstone defeated Tri-County 15-0, Kingsford rallied to beat Escanaba 4-2 and Iron Mountain defeated Norway 10-2.
Trailing 2-0, Kingsford cut the deficit to one as Harvey Ellis hit a single and later scored on a passed ball. Ellis scored again in the fifth inning on an RBI-single by Liam Wodenka to tie the game. Jacob Zawada stepped up with a two-run double that would prove to be the winning runs.
“Things didn’t go my way the whole game,” Zawada said. “I kept my head up and made contact and came through in the clutch.”
Iron Mountain was in control from the start against Norway as they put four runs on the board in the first inning. Hunter Leonoff, Brolan VanOss and Brantley Church contributed RBI hits.
In the third inning, Brennan Fiorucci homered to put Iron Mountain up 8-0.
Norway got on the board in the fourth inning as Rori Anderson hit an RBI-single.
The winner of today’s Kingsford-Gladstone matchup will advance to the championship game set for 5 p.m. Thursday. If the team coming through the loser’s bracket wins Thursday, the final title game will be played at 5 p.m. Friday.
The final elimination game in the loser’s bracket is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday.
