Norway will host Pickford at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mike Maule Field in an MHSAA regional semifinal.

The Knights are entering the game with a 20-7 record after winning a seventh straight district championship and their 14th in 17 years.

The district trophy was hoisted at home Friday after a 10-0 win in five innings over Bark River-Harris.

“Owen Baij was in complete control on the mound, which gives all of our players confidence and he led the way on offense as well,” said Knights coach Tony Adams.

Earlier in the day, Norway defeated North Central 14-4 in five innings. Bark River-Harris reached the finals with a 10-0 win over Stephenson in six innings.

“Our kids did a great job handling the heat and refocusing for game two,” Adams said. “We have some things we need to clean up before Wednesday,” he added.

The regional final is scheduled for Friday in Rudyard, with a state quarterfinal to follow.

Baij allowed just one hit against the Broncos while walking none and striking out nine. At the plate, he smacked a double and two singles, driving in three runs.

Norway’s Cameron Varda cracked a pair of singles and Elliott Kraemer tripled. Kellan Amundson and Tristan Lessor singled as the Knights also drew seven walks.

In the semifinal, Norway led 13-1 after three innings.

“We were able to get two freshmen, Hunter Langin and Landon DeBakker, tournament experience on the mound in this game and they were both effective,” Adams said. “Cameron Varda had a huge game at the plate and we also received production throughout the lineup, which is great.”

Varda had a home run and triple and drove in four runs. Tobi Anderson slashed four singles and Maddex Burklund doubled.

Contributing singles were Kraemer, Baij, Lessor, Amundson and Carter Cazzola.

From the mound, Langin and DeBakker allowed four hits, walked three and struck out three.

Starting at $3.50/week.
