Mondeik prevails on opening night in Norway

The 2026 racing season officially roared to life May 29 at Norway Speedway as fans packed the grandstands for opening night presented by AutoMoxie.

Several drivers set the tone early during qualifying by claiming fast-time honors in their respective divisions:

Whelen 4-Cylinder: Cody Gunville – 18.071

Sportsman: John Ostermann – 18.129

Super Stock: Ryan Wender – 15.818

Coca-Cola Super Late Model: Justin Mondeik – 14.056

The evening’s dash races provided fans with plenty of excitement as drivers battled for momentum heading into feature competition.

Super Stocks: Ryan Wender continued his impressive evening after setting fast time, converting speed into a feature victory in the Super Stock division: Ryan Wender; Peyton Linder; Jesse Hendrickson.

141 Auto Sportsman — The Sportsman division produced one of the night’s most competitive races, with veteran racer Jeff Nooyen earning the opening-night victory: Jeff Nooyen; Gary Thom; Todd Schmidt.

Whelen 4-Cylinders — After topping qualifying and winning his dash race, Cody Gunville completed a perfect evening by capturing the feature victory: Cody Gunville; Andy Street; Alex Bellmore.
