Speedway action continues with Little League Night

NORWAY — Friday night is Little League Night at Norway Speedway.

All young baseball and softball players who wear their Little League uniform to the track will receive free admission. Fans will enjoy a full racing program featuring the track’s local divisions battling for victories and valuable championship points.

On Saturday, a packed grandstand, beautiful weather, and some of the Midwest’s best short-track racers combined to create an unforgettable night for the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour Night presented by Weimer Bearing and Transmission.

Fans were treated to an action-packed evening featuring the stars of the ASA Midwest Tour along with the Super Stocks, 141 Auto Sportsman and Whelen Fab 4 divisions.

The speed was on full display during qualifying as drivers pushed their machines to the limit.

The ASA Midwest Tour’s odd/even qualifying races saw two talented drivers take victories.

Cody Gunville continued his impressive start to the season by backing up his fast-time effort with a dominant feature victory in the Whelen Fab 4 division.

The 141 Auto Sportsman feature delivered plenty of side-by-side racing, but when the checkered flag flew it was John Ostermann standing atop the podium. Sportsman Feature results: John Ostermann; Todd Schmidt; B.J. Schoneck.

One of the night’s biggest stories came in the Super Stock division. After winning his heat race, Joey Pontbriand carried that momentum into the feature and drove to an impressive victory against a talented field. Super Stock Feature results: Joey Pontbriand; Ryan Wender; Dean Belmore.

The headlining ASA Midwest Tour feature was everything fans hoped for. The region’s top Super Late Model competitors battled wheel-to-wheel throughout the evening, but once again it was Dalton Zehr who found himself in Victory Lane. For the second consecutive race at Norway Speedway, Zehr proved to be the class of the field, holding off a hard-charging Justin Mondiek and Gabe Sommers to secure another ASA Midwest Tour triumph.
