IM Juniors move on to state tournament after 13-4 win

IRON MOUNTAIN — A seven-run fifth inning lifted Iron Mountain to its Junior (ages 13-14) Little League district championship Friday at LiUNA Field.

Iron Mountain defeated Gladstone 13-4 for the District 10 title and will be be in action Friday at the state tournament in Felch.

Daniel Doers provided three innings of shutout relief for Iron Mountain in the six-inning victory. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out five.

Eli Anderson and Cale Punzel worked the first three innings on the mound as Iron Mountain led 6-4 going into the fourth on an RBI single by Jeb Holsworth.

At the plate, IM’s Doers and Sam Rossi collected two hits each and drove in a total of five runs. The hosts benefited from 11 walks, with Caleb Grunlund and Zayden Rochon drawing two apiece.

Iron Mountain played error-free, while Gladstone turned a double play.

Gladstone’s Jaxdon Quigley had two RBIs.

IM’s roster also includes James Powell, Joseph Powell, Marty Husing, Jake Payette and Daniel Anderson.

The eight-team state tournament at Felch Field has Iron Mountain playing Emmett at 3 p.m. Friday. Iron Mountain is then scheduled to play at noon Saturday and noon Sunday.

Negaunee has also qualified for the state tournament and is scheduled to play at 9 a.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Iron Mountain and Negaunee are in separate four-team pools. The top two teams in each pool will advance to a four-team single-elimination round Monday. Semifinals are at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the championship is set for 4 p.m. Monday.
