NORWAY — Kingsford holds the advantage entering today’s championship game at Marion Park in the District 10 Little League Majors (ages 10-12) baseball tournament.

In Tuesday’s winner’s bracket game, Kingsford defeated Gladstone 5-3 to advance to today’s title game at 5 p.m. A loss would still give Kingsford another chance at 5 p.m. Friday.

Gladstone went to the loser’s bracket for a game Wednesday against Iron Mountain, who advanced with a 10-0 win Tuesday over Schafer.

On Monday, Iron Mountain wasted no time as they ran away with a 23-3 win over Tri-County.

Schaffer, meanwhile, blanked Norway 6-0.

Iron Mountain scored nine runs in the first inning as Carson Mattson drew a lead-off walk and Weston Baij singled and both batters advanced on the throw.

Hunter Leonoff drove a single into center field to score two runs and Brennan Fiorucci also drove in two runs with a double to put Iron Mountain up 4-0. Iron Mountain scored nine runs on eight hits in the first inning.

Leonoff drove in another run in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single for his second hit of the game.

“I think the game went well today,” Leonoff said. “We did a lot of good things today. We made some good plays and didn’t make a lot of errors.”

Leonoff drove in two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single. Iron Mountain collected 20 hits with only one man left on base.

Tri-County was able to push across three runs as Brady Dahm, Brady Klyk and Eli Artross scored the runs for Tri-County.

Schaffer and Norway remained scoreless through the first two innings Monday, but Schaffer scored four runs in the top of the third.

Schaffer extended the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Landon Bruce drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run and Finn Bower scored a run in the top of the sixth inning.

Three pitchers– Max Olson, Maverick Mott and Jackson Erdody — worked together to give up only two hits in the game and combined for a total of 11 strikeouts.
