Michigan-Wisconsin tennis set for Aug. 1-2
The 79th annual Michigan-Wisconsin Tennis Open will be held at courts in Escanaba the first weekend of August.
Being played on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1-2, singles and doubles will be offered in nearly two dozen age and gender divisions, though the final number of divisions will be determined by the number of entries.
Entry fees are $25 per person for singles and $15 per person in doubles, which includes a tournament T-shirt. Proceeds from the event go to Escanaba Tennis.
While entries can be received right until the day of the event, depending on availability, only those who register by Tuesday, July 28, will receive a T-shirt.
Escanaba’s Ludington Park courts will be the tournament headquarters, with courts at Escanaba High School, Royce Park and Veterans Park also scheduled to be used.
Participants are asked to check-in by 8 a.m. Eastern time, with schedules to be posted at the headquarters on Saturday morning.
Players also must provide one can of Wilson or Penn balls per event. Winners of matches keep a new can and losers keep used balls.
Several websites have a full set of rules and release forms available, including at the Facebook page for the Northern Michigan Tennis Association and at the city of Escanaba webpage at https://www.escanaba.org/media/27856.
Play is set up for four divisions for men in singles, A, B, 40-over and 55-over, with a women’s A and B offered. Youth singles include ages 12-15 and 16-18 in both boys and girls.
Similar divisions are offered for doubles, along with mixed A and B divisions.
