‘Big Rigs’ highlight Fan Appreciation Night

The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. today at Norway Speedway with racing beginning at 7 p.m., barring an interruption from Mother Nature.
The slate includes the Stateline Challenge and Kent Pearson and Roy Allard Memorial Night.
The Stateline Challenge is in honor of Gene Coleman, No. 119. Also featured is the third round of Fast Five racing, sponsored by Werner Electric Supply and Aurora Liquors.
On July 24, Norway Speedway hosted Fan Appreciation Night, featuring the 141 Auto Sportsman Special, the Ed Hedlund Memorial Race, and 19 semi-truck "Big Rigs" thundering around the oval in side-by-side battles.
"Their incredible power, close competition, and unforgettable sights and sounds made them one of the biggest highlights of the evening, thrilling the fans and leaving them wanting more," Norway Speedway officials said in a Facebook post.
Steve "Snuffy" Thone captured the Big Rigs A feature. The trucks are scheduled to return Aug. 28.
In other events, the Speedway reported these results:
-- Cory Cootware claimed the Late Model Dash, while John Novara raced to victory in the Late Model Heat Race. In the Street Stocks, Ryan Wender captured the Dash before Jesse Hendrickson earned the Heat Race win. Zach Gazda continued his strong night by winning the Fab 4 Dash, while the Sportsman division saw Alex Reed take Heat Race No. 1 and Jon Maenpaa win Heat Race No. 2.
-- The 141 Auto Sportsman Special produced one of the most exciting finishes of the season. John Ostermann appeared to have his work cut out for him after breaking out and being forced to restart deep in the field. When a late caution flew, Ostermann masterfully took advantage of Norway Speedway’s Pick-A-Lane restart, choosing the line that gave him the best opportunity to charge forward. He methodically picked off competitors before putting on a driving clinic over the final lap. Feathering the throttle to maintain momentum and maximize grip, Ostermann made the winning move at the perfect moment to steal the victory and capture the Ed Hedlund Memorial in dramatic fashion.
-- Feature race victories belonged to Dan Lindsley in the Coca-Cola Late Models, Jesse Hendrickson in the Street Stocks, John Ostermann in the 141 Auto Sportsman Special, and Zach Gazda in the Whelen Fab 4.
