Felch Labor Day tourney Sept. 4-7

Nine baseball teams including Channing and defending champion Hortonville will compete in the 55th annual Felch Labor Day Championship set for Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7.

The tournament gets underway at 5 p.m. Sept. 4 at storied Felch Field as Bonduel takes on Houghton. Play resumes at 9 a.m. Sept. 5 with Kenosha playing Fox Cities.

Channing is scheduled to play at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 against Kenosha and at 1 p.m. Sept. 6 against Fox Cities.

The championship is slated for 2 p.m. on Labor Day. The last game otherwise each day will have a 5 p.m. start. Marquette, Trout Creek and Gratiot County round out the field.

Before the finals, the Felch Hall of Fame will induct two new members -- Jim Havens of Ionia and Dave Bray of Felch. Ken Dean will be saluted as honorary Fan of the Year.

“Come on out to Felch and enjoy some great baseball,” tournament organizers said.

Admission is $5 per day with children under 12 free, or $10 for all weekend.

Concessions throughout the tournament include brats, burgers, fries and beverages.

Kevin Fraker of Next Myle will sing the national anthem for the finals.

The weekend games are 100 minutes or seven innings, whichever comes first. The games on Labor Day, which will include semifinals at 10 a.m. and noon, are seven innings.
