Kingsford improved to 4-1 in boys soccer, going on the road Thursday to defeat Rhinelander, Wis., 4-1.
Flivvers coach Zach Celello credited his team for a well-rounded win, especially in the second half.
“We had a number of players in unfamiliar positions to try something new, and they all stepped up to the plate in a big way,” he said.
The Flivvers pulled ahead in the 17th minute as junior Gavin Hendricks headed the ball to senior Jonah Nelson, who notched the first score. In the 21st minute, senior Gavin Kinsella played a through ball to senior Jett Buckley, who made it 2-0.
In the 26th minute, the ball fell to senior Evan Grymes, who scored to make it 3-0.
The Hodags netted a goal in the 34th minute to make it 3-1 heading into halftime.
In the 75th minute, Tomas Uribe, a junior foreign exchange student from Spain, played a deep free kick from 45 yards away perfectly over the top to Hendricks, who settled the ball and scored.
“Tomas just joined us on Monday, and he has already cemented himself as an impact player in our midfield,” said Celello.
The Flivvers travel to Marquette today to play the hosts, as well as Ortonville Brandon.
“They will both be top quality teams, so we’re excited to compete,” Celello said.
The Kingsford jayvees defeated Rhinelander 9-1 to move to 2-0 on the year. A number of players found the back of the net including sophomore Dartagnan Mollick, who scored a first half hat-trick.
