Facing Marquette in girls tennis Monday, the host Kingsford Flivvers swept all four singles matches but Marquette pulled the same trick in doubles for a 4-4 tie.
“In Kingsford we had two evenly matched teams,” Marquette coach Karl Thomsen said. “Our singles girls battled well and a couple of our doubles teams came up clutch.”
Garnering the singles wins for the Flivvers were Aubrie Moore, Madalynn Sleik, Aubrey Bellmore and Chloe Lanning.
The Sentinels won a pair of three-set doubles matches by the No. 1 tandem of Eva Kentala and Charlotte Thomsen and No. 3 duo of Grace Jandreau and Brynn Helman.
“Doubles played much better than their scores reflect,” said Kingsford coach Tracy Rutter. “They’re still learning to work with each other and play more aggressively. Once they settle in and work out the kinks they are all going to be competitive.”
At Iron River later Monday, Marquette again swept doubles, not needing a third set in any of those matches, while also winning three of four in singles.
Grace Smith at No. 1 singles collected West Iron’s only win.
