Negaunee LL places third in Juniors baseball regional

Illinois defeated Wisconsin 10-0 on Sunday to claim the Central Region Junior Baseball Tournament championship in Midland, while Michigan representative Negaunee placed third.

Negaunee had qualified for the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) regional tournament by claiming the state championship in a tourney hosted by Iron Mountain North Little League. The regional tournament included nine state champions and the Bullock Creek hosts.

Negaunee opened with an 8-4 win over Indiana and a 5-4 win over Nebraska before falling to the eventual champions from Elmhurst, Illinois, 11-0.

In the loser's bracket, Negaunee fell to Whitefish Bay, Wis., 13-0, on Sunday.

The Wisconsin squad had also been sent to the loser's bracket by Illinois, falling 4-2 on Thursday after defeating Missouri on Wednesday.

Wisconsin advanced to play Negaunee in the final loser's bracket game with wins Friday and Saturday over Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana.

Illinois finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 mark.
