Westwood captured the Mid-Peninsula Conference girls tennis tournament Wednesday, hosting a seven-team event in which Norway placed third and Iron Mountain tied for fourth.
At No. 1 singles, Iron Mountain’s Alysia Wood placed third, while Norway’s Jordyn Moln finished fourth. Wood prevailed over Moln 8-4 in the third-place match.
Norway’s Jessa Rossler placed third at No. 2 singles and teammate Tori Trudeau was fourth at No. 3 singles. Myah Zeugner of Norway placed third at No. 4 singles with an 8-6 win over Iron Mountain’s Rhiannon Johnson, who was fourth.
Norway’s No. 1 doubles team of Myah Gilroy and Emily Carlson placed fourth. Placing third at No. 2 doubles were Iron Mountain teammates Penelope Geneva and Juliana Saldana, They prevailed 8-2 over fourth-place Lilly Tomlanovich and Lyla Tomlanovich of Norway.
At No. 3 doubles, Norway’s Marisa Pipp and Chloe Mitchem placed third. Norway also placed third at No. 4 doubles, with Katie Reath and Amara Humphreys posting an 8-6 win over Iron Mountain’s Meena Reynolds and Kaya Grassinger, who placed fourth.
Team totals were Westwood, 44; Negaunee, 36; Norway, 20; Iron Mountain and Ishpeming, 10; Gwinn and Munising, 0.

Marquette swept the doubles and split at singles to score a 6-2 victory over Kingsford at the Sentinels’ courts on Monday.
Kingsford’s wins came at No. 1 singles from Aubrie Moore and No. 2 singles from Maddy Sleik.
Marquette’s No. 3 singles player Nora Skytta scored a 6-2, 7-5 victory over the Flivvers’ Aubrey Belmore.
“Nora Skytta played one of her strongest matches of the year,” Marquette coach Karl Thomsen told the Marquette Mining Journal. “In the first set, Nora hit the ball to the spots she wanted to and things were clicking. As the second set progressed, Aubrey elevated her game, but Nora upped her level of compete and responded like the senior she is. It was a great way to close out her dual meet career.”
Another tough victory the Sentinels pulled out was at No. 1 doubles, where Marquette’s Eva Kentala and Charlotte Thomsen eked out a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over the Flivvers’ Mira Johnson and Kylee Woodward.
