Florence will host Laona-Wabeno tonight, coming off a 2-1 volleyball loss to the Rebels in the recent Northern Lakes Conference tournament.
The LadyCats went 4-2 overall in the NLC tourney played Thursday and Saturday, posting wins against Crandon, Elcho, Phelps and Goodman-Pembine, but dropping a 2-0 decision to Three Lakes.
"It is great that our conference is highly competitive,” said Florence coach Teresa Chrisman. “I really feel that on any given night the three top teams could win. We had the opportunity to be in a three-way tie for first place coming out of Saturday, but we just could not capitalize on our strength, which is hitting.”
The LadyCats tried some switches on offense, including using two liberos.
“We have three capable back-row players in Sienna Schmoll, Taylor Pauley and Quinn Cassidy, but we are still trying to figure out who is going to give us the best opportunity to dominate matches and keep the level of play up,” Chrisman said. “Our biggest struggle to date is serve receive."
During the NLC tournament, Florence’s Kelsi Chrisman had a stellar 62 kills with a hitting percentage of .302 and added 21 assists and 29 digs. Miley VanDenHeuvel had a solid match against Three Lakes with 10 kills and only one error. For the tournament, VanDenHeuvel notched 34 kills and led with 11 blocks and 42 digs.
Julia Murrow, continuing to grow into her role as a setter, had 78 assists. Naomi Millan led serving with 12 aces. Chrisman was the lone player who did not miss a serve.
In addition to a rematch with Laona-Wabeno, Florence tonight hosts Suring of the M & O Conference.
