Niagara gains M&O victories

Niagara posted a 4-1 record at an M&O Conference tournament Monday at Crivitz, placing second to a very competitive host squad.

“I was excited to see our offense really come to life,” said Niagara coach Maryellen Allred.

“I also was excited to hear from the team and especially the team captains that they were proud of themselves in their efforts off of serve receive,” she said. “This was an area of focus for us all summer and at the beginning of the season to improve.”

Niagara’s wins came against St. Thomas Aquinas Academy (25-18, 25-8), Coleman (31-29, 25-20), Wausaukee (25-21, 25-19) and Oneida (25-12, 25-4).

Crivitz prevailed over the Badgers 25-8, 25-16.

“I hope many of the successes we saw on Monday continue to build confidence in our team as we finish out our conference play throughout the rest of the season,” Allred said.

Coming off a strong performance Monday, the Badgers dropped the first set at home against M&O foe Gillett on Tuesday. Niagara then roared back for the win -- 18-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15.

“Gillett does a really nice job of finding holes on the court,” said Niagara coach Maryellen Allred. “The first set we had a huge lead and became too comfortable. This set the tone for the rest of the match to stay focused and present. I was really impressed with some fantastic hustle plays by our defense. We need to continue to focus on doing the little things right, such as serving and giving ourselves a chance to play in matches like these,” she said.
