Norway and North Dickinson battled through five sets before the Knights emerged with a 3-2 road win in varsity girls volleyball Tuesday.
“The game was really exciting to watch,” said Norway coach Meghan Rossato. “Hats off to North Dickinson for the fight. It was a hot day and the girls were exhausted by the end of five sets.”
The back-and-forth match had scores of 26-24, 14-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-11.
Norway’s Kendall Burklund was a force at the net with 30 kills and Aili Freiberg had 44 assists.
“Overall we had good defense and reads with a total of 97 digs -- we just had issues executing some of our hits,” Rossato said. “This is our second in-season game so we are just working on some kinks as of now, but the girls performed well and definitely worked for the win,” she added.
North Dickinson coach Taylor Johnson was happy with her team’s effort.
“Norway is a great matchup for us, and we were able to learn a lot about our strengths and what we need to work on,” Johnson said. “I thought that our blocking and defense at the net was spectacular, and libero Dalaney Steinbrecher played excellently in the back row.”
Rossato credited Lilli Sexton, who had to step in for the Knights as a front row player, due to an injury. “She handled it like a champion and really took on that leadership role going into the last set, super proud of her,” she said.
Addyson Burklund led the Knights in serving with six aces, followed by Emilee Temrowski with four.
