Back in action for its first volleyball match since Aug. 26, Forest Park shook off some rust for 3-0 wins over North Central and host Norway on Thursday.

The victory over North Central came by scores of 25-16, 25-11, 25-4.

“It took us a little while to get into a groove and work out the kinks,” said Trojans coach Bobbie Anderson. “We were a little slow to the ball, had some unforced errors, and had a few communication mistakes.”

Anderson gave credit to North Central and coach Rick Mick.

“His team is looking better than they have in the past, and we noticed them trying to run some different shots and mix things up,” she said. “It was good to see the growth they're making.”

Against Norway, Forest Park prevailed 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.

“Credit to Norway for continuing to fight and making us earn every point throughout all three sets,” Anderson said. “Overall, I was really happy with how our girls responded and competed.”

The Trojans have good depth this season, she said.

“All of our hitters had multiple kills, which is a great sign for us. We have solid hitters across the board, and it's exciting to see different players contributing offensively.”

Norway defeated North Central 3-1 (25-10, 25-14, 21-25, 25-11).

Forest Park will compete in The Rock tournament this weekend in Gladstone.

North Central hosts Superior Central on Tuesday while Norway is at Rapid River.

North Dickinson 3,

Carney-Nadeau 0

Playing on the road Thursday, North Dickinson prevailed 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 over the Wolves.

“It was a solid team win, with everyone contributing,” said Nordics coach Taylor Johnson. “Aunika Lindholm set a great game, keeping our offense varied and working Carney’s defense.”

Carli Jungwirth, Alle Brown, Kathryn Steinbrecher, Ella Rossi, Khloe Roberts, Dalaney Steinbrecher and Zoey Mattson all had perfect serving.

North Dickinson participates in the Baraga Invitational today.

North Dickinson stats:

Calumet 3,

Kingsford 1

Hosting Calumet on Thursday, Kingsford lost a close match 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-27, 6-25).

“Calumet played more confident, had more energy, and flat-out played better than we did,” said Kingsford coach Jaclynn Kreider. “Kate (Bonacorsi) had her team better prepared and her kids followed the plan.”

The Copper Kings served aggressively, she added.

“We had too many serving errors, receptions errors, and hitting errors to win against a well-coached team,” Kreider said.

The Flivvers will host Menominee on Tuesday.
