FELCH -- Trout Creek claimed its third title in five years with a 1-0 win over Marquette in the 55th annual Felch Labor Day Championship.
In a classic pitching duel in Monday’s title game, Marquette’s Nate Andrews surrendered six singles and Trout Creek’s Andy Neu gave up only three singles.
Trout Creek’s Dylan Detert had two singles, including the game-winner in the fifth inning. Detert was voted the tournament MVP, collecting nine hits in four games, including a home run.
Neu was the MVP pitcher, throwing 10 scoreless innings on Monday.
As fans lined Felch Field, the tournament inducted two new members into the Hall of Fame -- Jim Havens from Ionia and Dave Bray from Felch. Also inducted as Felch Fan of the Year was Kenny Dean.
“The Felch baseball committee would like to thank all of the volunteers for making this tournament a huge success,” organizers said. “Also, a big shoutout to all of the fans for supporting our tournament, thank you!”
