The Dallas Cowboys last week signed tight end James Mitchell to their practice squad and waived tight end Mitch Van Vooren.
Mitchell took the spot that Peshtigo, Wis., native Van Vooren had held for two days, according to Dallas Sports Journal.
The Carolina Panthers waived Mitchell on Aug. 31 in their cutdown to 53 players. The Detroit Lions drafted Mitchell in the fifth round in 2022 out of Virginia Tech. He has played 35 regular-season games with 16 receptions for 169 yards and 1 touchdown.
Van Vooren, 25, entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2025. He earned first-team All-NACC honors during his final collegiate season at St. Norbert College after recording 33 receptions for 510 yards and 10 touchdowns. He began his college career as a track athlete at Marquette.
Van Vooren has been on five NFL rosters in two years but has not played a regular-season game
