Houghton nearly prevailed against Kingsford in the second set, but the host Flivvers came through with a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 26-24, 25-15) in volleyball action Thursday.
“Playing Houghton is always a competitive match for us,” said Kingsford coach Jaclynn Kreider. “Our attackers had a high efficiency, which was nice to see. Unfortunately, our serve receive was struggling so we had to send more free balls and safe attacks that allowed them to set up their offense,” she said.
“I know we have more growth yet,” she said.

North Dickinson earned a straight-set victory over North Central in Skyline Central volleyball Thursday winning 25-16, 25-11, 25-20 in front of the home crowd on Parents Night.
“We turned in a strong all-around performance, with all 10 players contributing to the team victory,” said North Dickinson coach Taylor Johnson.
Libero Dalaney Steinbrecher led the defensive effort with 30 digs, setting a new school record for digs in a season and surpassing Briana Smith's previous record from 2018.
Steinbrecher also contributed five service aces and maintained 100% serving on the night. Kathryn Steinbrecher, Khloe Roberts, and Zoey Mattson also finished with perfect serving percentages.
Aunika Lindholm orchestrated the Nordic offense with 17 assists while adding three kills and 11 digs. Kathryn Steinbrecher led at the net with seven kills and contributed two blocks, while Aspen Anderson added five kills. Carli Jungwirth chipped in four kills and 13 digs.

The Florence gym was packed and bright with pink colors Thursday as the LadyCats cruised to a 3-0 Homecoming sweep of Crandon, 25-8, 25-8, 25-7.
“It was really nice to see all the support and awareness for cancer,” said Florence coach Teresa Chrisman. “As we all love someone going through it or lost someone dear to us, that is what the pink signifies.”
Florence won from the service line. Taylor Pauley served 23 times with five aces. Kelsi Chrisman led the way with 10 kills, 12 assists, and nine digs. Miley VanDenHeuvel had nine kills, two blocks and four digs.
“I was impressed with sophomore Leah Baker,” coach Chrisman said. “At this point in the season people know who are big attackers are. We need to spread the ball and find other players who can put the ball away and Leah did that with four kills and no errors.”
Senior Naomi Millan, who was also crowned Homecoming royalty, contributed three kills and seven digs.
The LadyCats have two remaining Northern Lakes Conference matches away next week at Phelps and Elcho.
Forest Park 3,
Norway 0
Forest Park came away with a volleyball sweep at Norway (25-10, 25-15, 25-14), improving to 27-3-1 on the season.
“I thought we played well overall,” said Lady Trojans coach Bobbie Anderson. “We served aggressively and made it difficult for Norway to get their offense going. We also did a nice job spreading the ball around to different hitters, keeping their blockers and back row on their toes.”
Evie Anderson led Forest Park with four blocks, followed by Aubrey Waara Shamion with three. Josie Anderson paced the offense with eight kills, while Harper Anderson added seven. Tessa Bartoszek and Aubrey Waara Shamion each contributed five kills.
“This was our fourth matchup against Norway this season, and each time we faced them, they looked better and better,” Anderson said. “However, tonight just wasn't their best night, and we did a good job taking advantage of their missed opportunities.”
