Florence and Green Bay NEW Lutheran will square off in a volleyball match at 7 tonight in Wabeno to decide a WIAA Division 5 sectional title.
Playing at home, the LadyCats advanced Thursday with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-12) sweep over Suring, showcasing an attacking prowess and limited errors.
“From serving to passing, we were firing on all cylinders,” said Florence coach Teresa Chrisman.
Green Bay NEW Lutheran advanced to the sectional final with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-11) victory over defending state champion Rib Lake. A win tonight would send Florence to the state tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay for a second straight year. The LadyCats were eliminated in the state semifinals a year ago.
“We are excited to play in a gym that we are very familiar with, and we certainly hope our fans make the short trip to pack the stands as we try to return to the Resch Center,” Chrisman said. “This matchup will be a battle,” she said. “We lost to NEW a couple weeks ago in a competitive match, but we’ve worked and improved upon things since then. It’s going to come down to heart, experience and execution.”
