Strong serving lifted North Dickinson to a 3-1 win over Superior Central in volleyball action Thursday.

The Nordics defeated the visiting Cougars 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 25-13.

“Aspen Anderson was particularly ferocious at the serving line, going on several long runs in the second and fourth sets to get comfortable leads and leading the team with nine aces,” said North Dickinson coach Taylor Johnson.

“Strong passing from libero Dalaney Steinbrecher and smart ball placement by Aunika Lindholm set up Carli Jungwirth and Ella Rossi to combine for 21 kills,” Johnson said.

The Nordics travel to Rapid River on Tuesday. They’ll host North Central at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium on Thursday.

North Dickinson stats:

Carli Jungwirth – 11 kills, 1 ace, 19 digs

Negaunee 0

Kingsford stayed on a winning track with a sweep at Negaunee on Thursday, playing in a packed gym that included a pep band.

“I was proud of the girls for not letting the noise frazzle them,” said Flivvers coach Jaclynn Kreider. “We stayed focused and composed most of the night without letting them steal momentum and go on big runs.”

The scores were 25-16, 25-20, 26-24.

Kreider said Kingsford’s defense was the best it’s been this season.

“We totaled 96 digs, which goes to show that the rallies were long and the defenses for both teams were scrappy,” she said. “Fatigue was setting in and were getting tired at the end of the third match and so I am grateful the girls found a way to finish that third set. Honestly, I give both teams credit for a fun night of high school volleyball.”
