Forest Park collected its fifth straight Skyline Conference volleyball championship Thursday with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-10, 25-14) over Bark River-Harris.
Forest Park’s conference winning streak has now reached 43 games.
“The girls played really well and are continuing to come together as a team, playing at an elite level,” said Lady Trojans coach Bobbie Anderson. “Bark River was scrappy and did a nice job keeping the ball alive, but our depth and aggressive hitting made it difficult for them to get their offense going and build any momentum.”
Forest Park now turns to the postseason and will host either North Central or Carney-Nadeau in a Division 4 district semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Norway 3,
North Dickinson 0
North Dickinson coach Taylor Johnson credited Norway’s Kendall Burklund for a fine defensive performance as the host Knights outlasted the Nordics 25-23, 25-20, 25-13 on Thursday.
“She proved to be just as much of a force defensively as she typically is offensively, digging up nearly everything we tried to put away,” Johnson said.
The ND coach said her team’s own defense did an excellent job both at the net and in the back row, limiting Norway's offensive opportunities and making them work for their points.
“Carli Jungwirth was all over the net, making her presence felt alongside Kathryn Steinbrecher and Ella Rossi, while Dalaney Steinbrecher anchored a strong defensive effort in the back row,” Johnson said.
Norway will play an MHSAA Division 3 district semifinal on Wednesday in Menominee against either Iron Mountain or Menominee.
North Dickinson will host either Hannahville or Stephenson at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a Division 4 district semifinal.
North Dickinson stats:
Carli Jungwirth – 2 kills, 1 ace, 4 blocks, 6 digs
