Keenan Allen

faces charges

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indianapolis Colts receiver Keenan Allen will face two misdemeanor charges in his alleged drunken driving incident, according to court records. The six-time Pro Bowler was formally charged Tuesday with operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration equivalent to 0.15 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He posted $500 cash bond, and his attorneys waived an initial hearing that had been scheduled for Wednesday. An attorney conference is set for Oct. 26. Colts coach Shane Steichen declined to address the issue before Wednesday’s practice, at which Allen is expected to be a participant.

Ryan Lasko

leaves hospital

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) -- Ryan Lasko, a minor league prospect with the Athletics who was paralyzed in an outfield collision more than two months ago, has been released from an in-patient rehabilitation hospital.

He will continue his recovery from home. The 24-year-old Lasko was released exactly two months after arriving at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. It’s about 35 miles from where he attended college at Rutgers and became a second-round draft pick by the A’s in 2023.

Staff members at the facility celebrated his departure with a “clap out” farewell ceremony as he exited the building’s main entrance.

NHL starts

training

(AP) -- NHL teams begin a sprint to the regular season with shorter training camps

Training camps open this week around the NHL right about the same time a year they usually do. Only this time, there are less than two weeks until the start of the season.

Shorter camps, fewer exhibition games and no mandatory fitness testing are part of the new normal. Even some of the most experienced players are not sure what to expect with a much shorter runway than usual.

The biggest losers are likely the young players and those on professional tryouts fighting to earn a roster spot, along with teams with new coaches trying to get ramped up quickly.
