Dickinson predator hunt draws 56 participants

FELCH — Several area wildlife organizations again partnered to coordinate the 2018 Dickinson County Predator Hunt.
The event, hosted by Solbergs Bar and Supper Club in Felch, is supported by several sportsmen’s organizations, including Eastern Dickinson County Sportsman Club, United Sportsmen Inc., U.P. Trappers District 3, U.P. Whitetails of Dickinson County and Wildlife Unlimited of Dickinson County, as well as local businesses Hardcore Outfitters, Iron Mountain Power Sports, Jacobson Logging, Lofholm Lumber, Midtown Bait, Ray’s Feed Mill, Sagola Hardwoods and Sorny’s Crane Service.
The 10-day event Feb. 2 to 11 allowed both hunting and trapping of predators. There were 56 registered participants who harvested 28 coyote, three fox and two bobcat.
Nineteen of the animals were taken by hunters and 14 by trappers. Prizes winners in the hunting division were: first place, Rick Hansen and Cody Welch; second place, Mark Schoen and Dan Wind; third place, Dan and Dennis Tappy; fourth place, Joe Fornetti; and fifth place, Don and Keith Maki.
Trapping winners were: first place, Dan and Dennis Tappy; and second place, Mark Schoen and Dan Wind.

A predator call donated by Russel Gustafson and George Freeman of Iron Mountain Power Sports was raffled off to raise $230.
Additional proceeds of $170 from a drawing and $372 in remaining unpaid prize money for divisions with no participants added up to a donation of $777 to support Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
