Ship to launch in Marinette

MARINETTE, Wis. — Two boat landings on the Menominee River will be temporarily closed for safety and security purposes on Saturday for the launching of the LCS USS Minneapolis-St. Paul at Marinette Marine Corp.

The affected landings are Boom Landing in Marinette and River Park (Mystery Ship) ramp in Menominee. Other boat landings downriver of the launch site will be unaffected.

Boat landings will be closed from midnight on Friday until about 5 p.m. Saturday. Additionally, all boats, including kayaks and canoes, will be barred from the marine safety zone established by the Coast Guard from about 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. This area is from approximately Nestegg Marine downriver to the east end of KK Integrated Logistics’ dock wall.

Boaters in the area should use caution and pay attention to directions from law enforcement and Coast Guard personnel.

Due to unusually high water levels, spectators on the Menominee side of the river should exercise caution when the boat is launched, as the resulting wave could sweep that side of the river bank.
