State panel having regular monthly meeting in Marquette

VICKI PONTZ

MARQUETTE – Members of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission will be available to meet with the public from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Eastern time Thursday at the My Place restaurant inside of the Holiday Inn, 1951 U.S. 41 West in Marquette.

Part of the commission’s “Coffee with the Commissioners” program, this gathering provides an opportunity for area residents to sit down over a cup of coffee and share their thoughts, suggestions and concerns about Michigan’s natural resources.

“It’s important that we give Michigan residents across the state every chance to hear from them on the management, accessibility and long-term future of Michigan’s natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities,” NRC Chairwoman Vicki Pontz said.

The commission will have its regular monthly meeting later that day, starting at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time in Ballroom 1 of Northern Center at Northern Michigan University.

The Natural Resources Commission is a seven-member public body whose members are appointed by the governor. The commission has exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish, and is authorized to designate game species and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals through the issuance of orders.

Monday’s agenda includes a policy committee report on wildlife and fisheries.

A complete agenda is available by going to Michigan.gov/NRC.
