Trout Unlimited to offer free showing of ‘Artifishal’ at NMU

MARQUETTE — The Fred Wara Chapter of Trout Unlimited, in conjunction with the Northern Michigan University Fisheries a nd Wildlife Association, will host a “Fishing After Hours” event Friday.

This meeting is a special viewing of the Patagonia movie “Artifishal,” a film about the intersection of humankind, wild fish and the aquatic ecosystems they depend on to survive.

Most significantly, the film examines the descent of the wild salmon towards extinction and the ways in which fish farms jeopardize the future of the species. Ultimately, the discussion focuses on how the prioritization of consumer demand over appreciation for the world’s wild spaces exists at the core of environmental issues.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Eastern time in Room 1100 of NMU’s Jamrich Hall. All who are interested in conservation and cold water fisheries are welcome. A fly rod door prize will be awarded.

Admission is free.
