Marinette duo tops 50-team field at Badwater Bass Tourney

FLORENCE, Wis. — Team “Cherry Optical” from Marinette, Wis, took first place at the Badwater Bass Tourney on the Twin Falls Flowage in Florence, Wis.

Josh Nerat and Adam Cherry registered six bass weighing a total of 19.7 pounds. They received a cash prize of $1,687.50.

They also caught the largest single bass, a largemouth weighing 4.3 pounds (19 inches long). That catch earned the pair a Humminbird Helix 5 fish finder donated by event sponsor Nine Lakes Sport & Marine on U.S. 2 in Florence.

The top seven teams received cash prizes totaling $3,563. Teams finishing eighth through 10th received prizes from El Capitan Supper Club, Whisler Outdoors, Saloon No. 2, Ash’s Restaurant, Mine Shaft Bar & Grill at Camping in the Clouds and Barb’s Cafe.

The July 10 event filled up with 50 registered boats from throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Fifth: Bryan Schwaller, Jed Popp (12.9 pounds), Wausaukee, Wis.

Sixth: Zack Bozile, Trever Rathbun (12.6 pounds), Iron Mountain.

Seventh: Chris Lewis, Matt Lewis (11.95 pounds), Green Bay, Wis.

Eighth: George Freeman, Hunter Fortner (11.35 pounds), Iron Mountain.

Ninth: Tom Tryba, Jon Cieslak (11.05 pounds), Mt. Pleasant, Wis.

10th: Mike and Kyle Komorowski (10.3 pounds), Oak Creek, Wis.
