ESCANABA — The National Trappers Convention will return to Escanaba in 2023.

The selection committee met at the national convention in Spencer, Iowa, recently selected the U.P. Trappers Association to host the 2023 annual National Trappers Convention.

The event will be July 28-30, 2023, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.

Attendees come from nearly every state in the nation and several foreign countries. This is a family- friendly event with a special building and many events for children of all ages, said Bob Steinmetz, U.P. Trappers Association NTA director.

After already helping to organize two previous national conventions, coordinator Roy Dahlgren said it takes thousands of dollars and a hundred or more dedicated volunteers to make a convention of this size run smoothly.

Escanaba previously hosted the convention in 2014 and 2018.
