Linda White of Little Valley, N.Y., a businesswoman and advocate for trapping, will be a presenter at the National Trappers Association convention at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The event will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time July 27-29. White’s presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Eastern time July 29.

ESCANABA — For the third time in the history of the event, the National Trappers Association has chosen Escanaba as the site for its annual convention.

An outdoor expo will take place at the U.P. State Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time July 27-29. Admission is $10 per day or $20 for all three days, and free for ages 12 and younger. Camping is available on the grounds.

Linda White of Little Valley. N.Y., will be among the presenters. She is co-owner of Trapping Girl Inc. and Sawmill Creek Baits and Lures. White was the 2021 recipient of the NTA Leadership Award for her work with women and kids in the trapping community.

From a young age, White had enjoyed fishing, camping and other outdoor activities with her father, but trapping never made it on the list until meeting her husband, Michael. The first time she went out was mainly to see what it was all about, and it was eye-opening for her.

In that first “ride along” Michael shared his passion and knowledge with her and after the first coyote catch she was hooked. Soon she was running her own line, and she became effective and passionate about trapping.

Since then, White has made it her quest to give women a voice in trapping and the outdoors. She runs events throughout the U.S., serves on national boards, and writes for magazines to help accomplish that goal.

White has become proficient in trapping multiple species, but fox is her focus. From trapping in the New York snow to gumbo in Arkansas and various terrains over different states throughout the nation, she has grasped canine trapping in all situations and is excited to share that knowledge.
