IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for an opening on its Off-Road Vehicle Advisory Workgroup.

The seven-member panel meets quarterly at varying locations around the state, working closely with the Michigan Trails Advisory Council.

“Members tell us that being part of this workgroup is a rewarding experience — it isn’t overly time-consuming and provides an opportunity for avid ORV riders to share their insight and connect with others who enjoy the sport and want to contribute to our state’s ORV opportunities,” said Jessica Holley-Roehrs, state motorized trails program specialist.

The positions are unpaid but travel can be reimbursed. Applications are due March 15.

The Wisconsin DNR will discuss northeast Wisconsin trout habitat management from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at its service center in Green Bay, 2984 Shawano Ave. The meeting will be held in person and via Zoom.

It’s the fifth of a six-part series focused on fisheries management in the region. For registration, go to https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/calendar?field_meeting_details_value=Northeast%20Wisconsin%20Fisheries.

The Menominee, Oconto and Peshtigo rivers opened up recently only to refreeze with a thin layer, according to the Wisconsin DNR. On the lower Menominee, anglers were able to fish along the shore and off Hattie Street bridge in Marinette.

Spawn and stickbaits were working for brown trout during the day and walleye were caught on the warmer nights on stickbaits.

Ice shanties must be removed on Wisconsin-Michigan boundary waters on or before March 15. For the rest of the U.P. the deadline is March 31. The deadline for Wisconsin waters north of Highway 64 is March 17.
