Big Shooters 4-H launches 2024 season at Marshfield

FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence County 4-H Big Shooters attended the first shoot of the year for Wisconsin, taking numerous awards at Marshfield.

Seventy-three of Wisconsin’s top shooters attended. Seven local shooters from Dickinson and Florence counties participated in various age categories and disciplines.

The team’s youngest shooter was Jonas Eloranta of Florence County. He competed in the Junior category, ages 9-11. Eloranta earned 10th in compound bow limited. He also earned a third-place finish in air rifle sporter.

The intermediate age category, ages 12-14, had four youths representing the Big Shooters. Gracie Swank took fourth in air rifle. She was only 19 points behind the division champion in that very close division. This was Swank’s first time back in competition since her fourth-place finish at the Michigan State Shoot in 2019.

Bo Glasheen placed in three categories. He brought home seventh place in air rifle, sixth place in .22 rifle, and fourth place in .22 pistol. His sister, Willow Glasheen, earned sixth place in air rifle and third place with her .22 rifle.

The team’s top shooter in the intermediate division was Vandan Pezzullo of Kingsford. Pezzullo earned fifth with his .22 pistol, second with his .22 rifle, and first place with his air rifle.

In the Senior division, ages 15-19, the Big Shooters had two competitors. Wyatt Glasheen has not shot competitively since his first place team finish at the 2019 Michigan State Shoot. At Marshfield he earned fourth place with his .22 pistol. Glasheen was also the team’s top finisher in the Wildlife category, placing third.

Alexander Erickson came up just short in his championship bid. Erickson came in fifth with both his air pistol and air rifle. He earned second place finishes with his .22 rifle and .22 pistol.

The Big Shooters club meets at the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club north of Channing on the first Sunday of the month at 1 p.m. Youth are invited to learn and compete in archery, BB gun, air rifle, .22 rifle, shotgun, air pistol, air rifle, and muzzleloading.
