HERMANSVILLE — Doors will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, for the 21st annual Young Trappers Workshop. The event takes place at the Frank Rodman Community Center, W5480 1st St., Hermansville, running until about 3 p.m.

Besides fun and prizes, the workshop strives to impart as much learning as possible, organizers said. Kids can examine, touch and feel tanned furs and try to guess the name of the corresponding animal. They can view the skull display and try to match it to the correct furbearer by pressing a button to light up the right answer.

Expert trappers, including John Gunville, Jeremy Lundin and Jim Fornetti will be covering raccoons, mink, muskrats, squirrels and weasels, but advice will also be available on beaver, coyote and bobcat, among others.

Barnes Hide and Fur will be selling trapping supplies and buying furs and deer hides. If selling furs or needing supplies, please call Trever Barnes so he can explain what furs he will be buying and how they must be prepared. He can be reached at 269-967-4475.

Every youngster goes home with a free trapping kit.
