Sagola club awards Tip-UP Town prizes

CHANNING — The Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club annual Tip-UP Town of the U.P. ice fishing derby drew 163 anglers from as far as Green Bay, Wis.
Temperatures held at about 19 degrees for the event, which is held annually on the first Saturday of February on Sawyer and Edey lakes.
The winners of the youth division (ages 18 and under) earned buckets filled with prizes from local sponsors. First place winners earned a trophy as well.
Jason Harwath took first and second place in the perch category and has now earned more first place awards than any other angler in the history of the tournament.
In the bluegill category, it was Graham Hartwig getting the trophy, followed by Jason Harwath in second and Alastair Testini in third.

Northern pike had the most fish caught for the weekend. A full leader board of five anglers represented the numbers. Ella Kasten took home the trophy, bucket, and the largest northern pike for the day. She was followed by Miles Holsworth, Eliy Carollo, Xaiver Leipzig and Gracie Holsworth.
The crappie category also had five angers fill the leader board. First place was Corbin Mattson. He was followed by Camden Mortly, Graham Hartwig, Eli Morgan and Stanley Cichahofsky.
The only walleye caught at the tournament was take in by Jack Cvengros. He was the first youth angler to catch a walleye in over five years.
The adult division was tight, with 88 anglers registered.
In the perch category it was George McGillivay in first. He was followed by John Nurmi and Andrew Johnson. The bluegill category had the veteran Nick Harwath earning both first and second place honors. He was followed by Anibail Aponte in third.

Northern pike had Austin Hamm earning the big check of the day. He was followed by Dave Miller and Dalton Skover. The crappie category had Luke Theisen in first place. He was followed by Kevin Petermore and Jorday Bray in third. No walleyes were registered in the adult division.
The Sagola Township Sportsmen’s club thanked the many sponsors that make the event possible.
